I started getting into liella a few weeks ago after falling in love with kuma from the aiscream video and have been obsessed with them since.
However, I just cant seem to get into the 2d side of the group and I assume im probably a minority amongst liella (or LL in general) fans who are only interested in the seiyuu side. For that reason I am extremely happy with all these seiyuu contents liella is releasing
but recently Ive seen a lot of discourse on twitter about LL fans being anime-only or seiyuu-only fans thus some people arent happy with how liella are now apparently “only selling the seiyuus” despite being from LL.
honestly I cant say much bcs ik im not the usual “traditional” LL fan and am curious to know what you guys think about it.

Liella's appeal comes from their seiyuu in my opinion, if you pay attention to their recent appearances at external festivals and TV performances you can see that their staff are clearly trying to break into the same market as other currently popular Japanese idol units like Cutie Street, Fruits Zipper and the IkoNoiJoy (=Love, ≠ME and ≒JOY) that have very similar fanbases. Liella is Love Live's attempt at running a no strings attached idol unit, Aqours were the guinea pigs for that concept but Liella is the final form.
That being said, the characters are still equally important in my eyes! What makes Liella unique compared to those other units is that this is still Love Live, so they take staying fully in sync with the characters very seriously. If you're a first timer in the audience you keep switching between staring at the animated video playing on the jumbotron and then back at the members on stage to be wowed at how they mimic every single move with perfect precision. I know that they're obviously much more seiyuu focused when compared to their predecessors but the 2D side is still an extremely focal portion as to why they're able to work as well as they do as a group.
Completely unrelated but I love that Liella's the first LL group with seiyuu the same ages as me, I would look up to μ’s and Aqours as role models when I was younger but it feels kinda refreshing to follow a bunch of fellow zoomers with the same exact sense of humor I have lmfao

I love the Liella girls, both seiyuu and characters. I do like that they did more seiyuu stuff in the gap between S2 and 3 of the anime. As opposed to getting familiar with the characters and then seiyuu like the other series, I definitely went into S3 wanting to like Toma and Margaret because of how much I adore the seiyuu. Liella's seiyuu are all very pretty and entertaining on their own so they're easy to love. I'll always prefer the 2D side of LL just because I come to it as an anime fan instead of an idol fan, but Liella makes loving both very easy.
Would still recommend watching Love Live Superstar, it doesn't have many connections with the previous series, but it's still my favorite LL anime. There are some who say season 2 isn't very good, but I disagree. And I think Superstar season 3 is the best any LL anime has to offer.
But you do you, and like what you like. Liella has a lot of fun and enjoyable seiyuu content! It sucks that Shiki's seiyuu, Ookuma Wakana, doesn't have her own personal social media, because she's my favorite as well lol. She seems to be the very offline type which I find fascinating. And of course her voice is amazing.

Would still recommend watching Love Live Superstar, it doesn't have many connections with the previous series, but it's still my favorite LL anime. There are some who say season 2 isn't very good, but I disagree. And I think Superstar season 3 is the best any LL anime has to offer.
But you do you, and like what you like. Liella has a lot of fun and enjoyable seiyuu content! It sucks that Shiki's seiyuu, Ookuma Wakana, doesn't have her own personal social media, because she's my favorite as well lol. She seems to be the very offline type which I find fascinating.
