i've only ever watched shounen since like 2018. i haven't tried anything else. i watched a silent voice in the past and enjoyed saiki k but that's as far as i've ventured.
like 4 days ago i searched up "best romance anime" and watched the one ranked first: Horimiya
* it was seriously good, i had no idea i could like romance this much.
Then I watched My Dress Up Darling which I didn't expect to like whatsoever, but I loved it a lot. I noticed I mostly just focus on the interactions between the two mains and lack much interest for most other side stories, though. Guess I like the simplicity and purity of a love story.
So to sum it up and get to the point I need more like these. It's super basic, i know, but I want to watch more romance. All the other ones that show up seem super strange; weirdly long names and such that i don't get. I also really want a modern setting. For romance i really don't care for a medieval fantasy setting or extremely old classic Japan like Demon Slayer. Also as little s ual fan service as possible. My Dress Up Darling really pushed my limits.
Idk if I sound rude or spoiled to you guys who watch a lot of this but I really feel like I'm lacking anything even remotely similiar to the two I've watched. Are there any others?

I'm gonna list my top romance animes:
Toradora: Boy meets girl and they are in love with their best friend (boy with best friend of girl and so) so they make a pact of helping each other. This has some scenes that I consider to be the peak of romance anime
Anthem of the heart: movie about a girl who got her voice stolen by an egg (sounds weird but is peak)
I want to eat your pancreas: A lonely boy meets a girl who will change his world views
Your lie in april: an expert of piano stopped playing in some moment. He meets a violinist girl who is interested in his friend and they start getting close out of it.
Oregairu: Lonely and pessimistic boy is forced to be part of the "help club". It has a really good character developments
Saekano: this has more fan service and it is not as good but it does have a really good movie and it is really meta. You can watch it again in a future when you already watched a decent amount of romance animes for catching more of the meta. It also has my favorite non MC girl in anime.
Given: Boy lost in life meets another boy and he joins his band. This is yaoi so be aware
Yuri on ice: Boy ice skater meets another another one and he starts to re gain love for rhe sport. This is yaoi too
Kimi ni todoke: Shy girl meets popular boy. This has the best secondary characters. I got more invested in their story than theain one. The second season is kinda hard to watch sometimes but the last season is peak cinema (everything has a resolution)
White album 2: Boy who plays guitar meets girl who play piano and another girl
Sakamichi no apollon: Lonely pianist boy meets jazz band member boy and they start playing in a band and that kind of stuff. It is not yaoi. And just check the extra chapter of the manga afterwards. It is like 5 short chapters about their live after the story ends)
Ef a tale of memories: girl with 13 hours spam memory meets boy. And mangaka boy meets an interesting girl
Ef a tale of melodies (second season of the previous one): girl meets a violist. And orphan boy meets an old orphan female friend. This has, for me, the best direction that I have ever seen
