You often see romantic couples be paired as one weak, one strong, or sometimes more rarely, two strong. And for a time, during Season 1, you might be mistaken in thinking that Clannad follows the same pattern: Tomoya as the strong guy taking care of and helping the weak, chronically ill Nagisa finish out her last year of high school and help with the drama club, right? But far from being strong, Tomoya finally voices what he's been thinking all these months, that he's pathetic, and weak, and probably doesn't deserve Nagisa. What you'd expect is for Nagisa to contradict him here, point out all his strengths and how he's really not pathetic at all.
Instead, Nagisa affirms that she loves him despite his weaknesses, that he doesn't need to be strong alone for her to love him. They might be pathetic and weak individually, but together...

And that is why I'll be supporting Tomoya and Nagisa in today's/tonight's/tomorrow's (Depending on timezone and how you look at it) competition! They're by far the underdogs, and their opponents are pretty great as well, even if they lose here I'll happily support the Apothecary Diaries duo in future rounds... But even if for one more round...
